I currently live just outside of Buffalo Wyoming in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains (Shining Mountains as the Native Americans called them) at an elevation of 5,000 feet. I love to photograph on my many hikes around Wyoming and Colorado. Most of my hikes have taken place between 8,000 and 14,000 feet.
Living near Buffalo gives me easy access to the Big Horn Mountains, the Clear Creek Trail System, and the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. This whole area has been much less photographed than the San Juan Mountains area where I moved from.
Before moving to Buffalo in 2019 I lived in Ouray County Colorado just north of the San Juan Mountains and was on the Board of Directors of many non-profits on the Western Slope. Before living in Colorado, I lived in Illinois and worked as an attorney for 35 years, but I photographed at every chance I got in North America, Hawaii, North Africa, the Caribbean, Europe and Central America.
I have been photographing since I was about 10 years old and I have used a variety of film and digital cameras over the years including Kodak, Canon, Pentax, Contax, and Fuji.
The first camera I shot photos with was my mother’s Kodak Brownie. Later my dad bought a Nikon F2 for me, which my brother and I used for astrophotography with our telescopes. We often developed our own black and white astro photos in our basement.
I started using a Sony digital camera in 2002 and completely stopped using my Canon 1V film camera in 2005 when I bought a Canon 5D digital camera. For a few years I used both a Sony a7RIII mirrorless digital camera and a Fujifilm GFX 50S mirrorless medium format digital camera. A mirrorless camera is much lighter and smaller than a comparable DSLR camera and, therefore, much easier to carry in your backpack on long hikes, see my Multimedia Blog page. In 2023 I decided to purchase a Canon EOS R7 because both the camera and lens have image stabilization which allows me to photograph in almost every situation without a tripod. And the camera is very light for hiking, since it has an APS-C sensor.
In 2013 I set up my first professional photography business and website. Then in 2018 I set up my second professional photography business and website named Dudley Case Fine Art Nature Photography. In 2024 I shortened the name to Dudley Case Photography.
I manage and edit my photos mostly in Photoshop, ON1 Photo Raw 2025 and Luminar Neo.
